REC’s Milan Koev joins APVIA as a Vice Chairman of the Executive Committee

Singapore/Shanghai 6 February 2018. The Asian Photovoltaic Industry Association (APVIA) the leading Photovoltaic Industry Association for Asia, announced today that REC Solar Pte Ltd has joined APVIA and have appointed Mr. Milan Koev to serve as a Vice Chairman of the Executive Committee.    

Mr. Koev has extensive experience in developing and financing solar projects in Asian Pacific countries through a network of international private equity investors and financing institutions. Currently, Koev is Vice President of Sales and Marketing of the Asian Pacific Region at REC.  

REC joined APVIA to enhance its support to the solar industry in developing the PV markets in the south-east Asia region and in Europe. Koev’s extensive experience in the solar industry and his wide and broad people connections in south-east Asia and Europe will also increase APVIA’s ability to grow in these areas and sectors and enable our association to offer a wider range of experience in the future!

ACWA Power wins the first ever Utility-Scale Renewable Energy project in Saudi Arabia
ACWA Power, the Saudi, global leader in developing, constructing and operating power generation and desalination water plants in 11 countries, has won Skaka IPP PV solar project, the first utility scale Renewable Energy plant at the oil capital, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This plant is the first of what will be a series of procurement within the visionary and ambitious Saudi national renewables program aiming to produce 9.5 GW of renewable energy by 2023 as a first phase. The 25-year Power Purchase contract was awarded for ACWA Power at a new world record tariff of 8.782 halala/kWh (US Cents 2.34/kWh).

Turkey Adds 2.6 GW PV in 2017 And Hits 2019 Target Of 3 GW Capacity 2 Years Early; December 2017 Reports Highest Capacity Addition In A Single Month With Nearly 1.2 GW
The 2017 Turkish PV market grew over 300% compared to 2016, reporting 3,420.7 MW of cumulative PV installations at the end of December last year, according to Turkish PV association Günder. In 2016, the total installed PV capacity was only 832.5 MW, which means the country added 2,588.2 MW in 2017 – that’s more than any other country in Europe or the Middle East in that year.

Vietnam is accelerating the construction of solar power plants to make up for an anticipated power shortfall due to the recent cancellation of several nuclear power projects.?

South Australia and Tesla team up again for world’s largest ‘virtual power plant’
The move was announced by the state government on Sunday and sees the environment-conscious company team up with the southern Aussie state for the second time. In November, Tesla CEO and founder Elon Musk fulfilled a promise to solve the state’s power problems by completing the world’s biggest lithium-ion battery installation outside of the Hornsdale.

India’s Karnataka state awards 760 MW of grid-connected PV projects - report
A tender for 760 MW of grid-connected solar project in the Indian state of Karnataka has attracted bids of as low as INR 2.94 (USD 0.046/EUR 0.037) per kWh, consultancy Mercom Capital reports.
Plastic Solar Cells Made Simple
A team of researchers at Osaka University in Japan, in collaboration with the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research in Germany, have invented a polymer that is easy to manufacture and has an excellent conversion efficiency of solar power to electricity. They published their findings in Advanced Energy Materials. 

US firm floats plans for 150-MW solar project in Cambodia - report
US company Omni Navitas has floated a proposal for a 150-MW solar power plant in Cambodia, local media reported.

China Builds Massive Floating Solar Farm That Could be the End of Fossil Fuels
China is looking at wind, solar, and hydropower as alternative energy sources for its future and it’s one of the biggest investors in these sectors. Its new mega-project has been making airwaves in major news sites. The largest country in Asia is building a large floating solar farm over a former coal mine.

Morocco Predicted to Outperform MENA Nations in Renewable Energy Sector
