February 22 (Renewables Now) - Turkey has started work on wind and solar actions of 1 GW and plans to conduct them before the end of the summer, said energy minister Berat Albayrak.
In a speech at the Turkey Energy and Mining Forum in Istanbul on Thursday, Albayrak also said Turkey has started preparing an offshore wind project, according to an announcement on the ministry's website.
The minister mentioned adding a battery storage component to the solar Renewable Energy Resource Area (YEKA) project.
In March 2017, the Kalyon - Hanwha Group consortium won a tender for a 1-GW solar park at the Karap?nar YEKA. In August, a consortium led by Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy SA (BME:SGRE) won the auction for a 1-GW wind power project.
