Industry Says Goodbye To Friend & Solar Pioneer Professor Stuart Wenham

The industry is mourning the loss of an industry giant. Longtime industry veteran, widely regarded as an icon of the solar industry, UNSW's Professor Stuart Wenham passed away Saturday 23 December after losing his battle with malignant melanoma. He was 60 years old.

Wenham is known for many contributions to the Solar industry (click here for full biography) but was most notably recognized for being the inventor of the Advanced Hydrogenation hydrogen passivation technology, which has allowed efficiency of solar cells to be boosted a hundredfold. The technology, based on the use of lasers to control the charge state of hydrogen atoms within a silicon wafer, was heralded as a “breakthrough for silicon photovoltaics” by the UK Institution of Engineering and Technology when it awarded him the 2013 A.F. Harvey Engineering Prize.

A memorial service will be held on Monday 8 January 2018 at 2pm, at the Sir John Clancy Auditorium at the Kensington campus of the University of New South Wales in Sydney.

Wenham was also a steady supporter of the SNEC PV Power Expo and we are grateful for all of his contributions that he made over the years.  Our heartfelt condolences & deepest sympathies go out to his family during this difficult period.
