Saudi's Zahid buys into top European solar project developer
Saudi-based Zahid Group said one of its subsidiaries Omas has reached an agreement with The Greencells Group, one of the biggest providers of solar photovoltaics (PV) power plants in Europe, to acquire a 50 percent stake in the company.

China's H1 PV deployments slightly down to 24.3 GW
The Chinese solar power industry deployed 24.3 GW of capacity in the first half of 2018, just slightly down from 24.4 GW in the year-ago period, shows data by China’s National Energy Administration (NEA).

India imposes 25% safeguard duty on solar cell imports

China's solar stress could burn more dealmakers
China’s solar stress could burn more dealmakers. The industry faces a glut of raw materials and panels after the Chinese government slashed support for the heavily indebted sector. The first victim of the switch is industry giant GCL-Poly Energy, which scrapped plans to flog assets to state-backed Shanghai Electric . It won’t be the last.
GTM Research forecasting global solar market to fall to 85.2GW in 2018
GTM Research’s latest ‘Global Solar Demand Monitor’ report expects the global solar market to decline to 85.2GW in 2018, driven by China’s decision to cap its two largest markets, utility-scale and Distributed Generation (DG) at the end of May, due to the market overheating and subsidy payment requirements by utilities running significantly ahead of plan. 

It’s official: Chinese solar cells and modules hit with additional 25% tariff
U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer announced recently that approximately $16 billion worth of imported Chinese products will be subject to a 25% tariff under a Section 301 ruling. Included with these products are solar cells and modules under the category “diodes for semiconductor devices, other than light-emitting diodes.”

ADB provides $25.44 mn grant to promote solar-powered irrigation 
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the government of Bangladesh on Thursday signed agreements for $25.44 million in grant to spur off-grid solar photovoltaic (SPV) pumping for agricultural irrigation.

The 2nd Edition of the Phanes Group Solar Incubator set to kick off
Phanes Group (www.PhanesGroup.com/incubator), an international end-to-end solar provider headquartered in Dubai, UAE, has announced the 2nd edition of its Solar Incubator program, aimed at identifying PV projects of potential in sub-Saharan Africa by providing support to funding, and commercial and technical knowledge.

Modi reviews performance of key infrastructure sectors of Energy, Mining
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday reviewed the progress of key infrastructure sectors of power, renewable energy, petroleum and natural gas, coal, and mining. The two-hour-long review meeting was attended by top officials from infrastructure-related Ministries, NITI Aayog, and Prime Minister's Office (PMO), read a statement.
